About…

… the title

But if ever I stray from the path I follow,
Take me down to the English Channel,
Throw me in where the water is shallow,
And then drag me on back to shore.

It’s a lyric from “If Ever I Stray”, a song written by Frank Turner. I’m a fangirl at heart and have a thing for lyrics. “If Ever I Stray” is one of my favourite Frank Turner songs. Frank Turner is also my favourite singer/songwriter and performer.

… this space

Almost 30 years ago I’ve started to take my first steps in this vast space old(er) people like me call “the internet”. For almost all this time I’ve chatted on message boards, I’ve read blogs, I’ve written in blogs. I’ve left comments in fan groups on Livejournal (back in the day) or Facebook (rarely these days).

From the start I was fascinated by the ability to connect with people all over the world. I’ve always loved the English language and one of the things I loved about the internet was the easy chance to practise reading and writing in English. So that’s what I’ve been doing. And that’s how it’s going to be here even though I am a German, living in Germany.

For a lot of those past 30 years I’ve also shared photos on a variety of platforms. Message boards. Blogs. Sites like flickr or ipernity. On Instagram as well, because that quickly became the go-to plattform to share photos.

I still post on Instagram occasionally, but I want to have more control over who is allowed to use my photos for whatever reason, but also still have a place to share them with a wider audience. I know in the days of AI crawlers, it might seem futile to keep control over any content I put online. But I’m not ready to give up on that yet.

This is my (latest) attempt to coalesce* and curate galleries of older and current photos in one single place.

*My love for the English language also makes me use fancy words whenever I can

You can reach me via Email at susanne[at]ctbm.net. As @dennasus I’ve got the forementioned Insta account and also accounts on other social media platforms but I neither use Bluesky, Threads or my Mastdon.Scot account to be honest. I just wanted to make sure nobody else used “my” username.
