These are a few lines from the lyrics to “If Ever I Stray”, a song written by Frank Turner. I’m a fangirl at heart and have a thing for lyrics. “If Ever I Stray” is one of my favourite Frank Turner songs. Frank Turner is also my favourite singer/songwriter and performer.
That’s me in a nutshell, basically. Just kidding.

Almost 30 years ago I took my first steps in this vast space we used to call “the internet”. For almost all this time I’ve been visiting websites, read newspapers online, watched clips on Youtube. I’ve chatted in chatrooms I’ve written on message boards or built blogs. Quite a lot of the latter centred around various TV or music fandoms. From the start I was fascinated how “the internet” allowed me to connect with likeminded people all over the world. I’ve always loved the English language and I appreciate(d) the opportunity to easily practise reading and writing in English. So that’s what I’ve been doing. That’s also why I’m using English on this site, even though I am a German, living in Germany.
For a lot of those past 30 years I’ve also shared photos on a variety of platforms. Online forums. Blogs. Sites like flickr or ipernity. On Twitter, back when it still was or at least seemed like a friendly corner of this online world. I’ve shared photos on Instagram, because in the 2010s that quickly became the go-to platform for photos.
I still post on Instagram occasionally. But these days I want to have more control over who is allowed to use my photos for whatever reason, while also still have a place to share some of my photos with a wider audience. I know in times of AI crawlers, trying to keep control over any content I put online might seem futile. But I’m not ready to give up on that yet.
This is my (latest) attempt to coalesce* and curate galleries of current and older photos in one single place.
*My love for the English language also sometimes makes me use fancy sounding words
