Last week I went to a gig: Dick Brave & the Backbeats [DE]. Dick Brave is the rockabilly Alter Ego of German popsinger Sasha [DE], and Dick Brave only appears on a stage in Germany once every decade. They are playing some old rock’n’roll but more than that rockabilly cover version of current hits or hits from the 1970s onwards: ABBA, Green Day, Michael Jackson, George Michael. It’s always lots of fun to see and sing along and swing along; I don’t usually move my body to music the way I move it to these songs. Every time an interesting experience. It’s also so much fun to see Sasha have so much fun trying to stay “in character” all night. Speaking in broken German with a Northamerican accents, bullshiting stories about his time in Germany with the Candian army… Bonkers and hilarious.
Gig photography is not my best skill, and these didn’t all turn out quite the way I had hoped. Live and learn.
