About…

the title

But if ever I stray from the path I follow,
Take me down to the English Channel,
Throw me in where the water is shallow,
And then drag me on back to shore.

These are a few lines from the lyrics to “If Ever I Stray”, a song written by Frank Turner. I’m a fangirl at heart and have a thing for lyrics. “If Ever I Stray” is one of my favourite Frank Turner songs. Frank Turner is also my favourite singer/songwriter and performer.

That’s me in a nutshell, basically. Just kidding.

this space

Almost 30 years ago I took my first steps in this vast space we used to call “the internet”. For almost all this time I’ve not just read websites or watched videos. I’ve chatted in chatrooms, I’ve written on message boards or built blogs. Quite a lot of the latter centred around various TV or music fandoms. From the start I was fascinated how “the internet” allowed me to connect with people all over the world who shared my interests. I’ve always loved the English language and I appreciate(d) the opportunity to easily practise reading and writing in English. So that’s what I’ve been doing. That’s also why I’m using English on this site, even though I am a German, living in Germany.

For a lot of those past 30 years I’ve shared thoughts and opinions. In writing. Often in form  of reviews (tv shows, books, movies) or in form of recaps of vacations and concerts.

I then reached a phase where my writing / sharing dwindled into a long silence. Because of privacy concerns and also a severe case of writers block. I’ve taken posts offline or turned on private mode.

This is my (latest) attempt to coalesce* and curate a collection of posts I still consider worth sharing with “the world”. Most of those will probably be of the (Frank Turner) Fangirling variety.

*My love for the English language also sometimes makes me use fancy sounding words

You can reach me via Email at susanne[at]ctbm.net. As @dennasus I’m on Instagram, but don’t use it all that much anymore. Under this name I’ve also got accounts on Bluesky, Threads and Mastdon.Scot, but actively I’m using neither . I just wanted to make sure nobody else was “stealing” my username.
